Why This Matters: Moms and Having It All...
As I edited this issue, sitting in my messy living room - forced to see the results of 'not having it all' - I couldn't help but feel relieved. Relieved that I am not the only one. That every other mother weighs the choices each day to determine what would have to give. So I leave the dirty dishes from tonight's dinner on the table, tuck my little one into bed, and choose to put my passion ahead of a perfectly kept house.
The moms featured in this issue are only a few examples of the pressures and joys that come from being a mom and the interpretation of what it means to have it all... or not. In fact, nine out of ten moms feel the pressure to be perfect.
The pressures faced by moms are sometimes placed by themselves, but also commonly by family, friends, even coworkers. In this interview with Peggy Orenstein she shares some of the ways moms can tackle the pressures. And despite what your mother or mother-in-law would like you to think, this is a modern phenomenon as reminded by this mother's viral post.
I hope you read these heartful, honest, and optimistic essays and find your way to have it all... or not.
